Co-creators of the open-source Happiness Return Framework
SVT client Happiness Capital with its portfolio companies in Tokyo, December 2024.
The Happiness Return Framework integrates foundational concepts and measures including; the 5 dimensions of impact, Social Value Principles, the Planetary Boundaries, SDG Global Goals, OECD’s Better Life Index, and the PERMA Framework. It aligns with IRIS+ and other open-source disclosure standards, and can be detailed in issue areas such as climate-related impacts while maintaining structural integrity. Read more here.
In collaboration with Happiness Capital, a multi-million dollar impact fund based in Hong Kong, and drawing on decades of collective wisdom in impact measurement and management, SVT developed the open-source Happiness Return Framework.
Going beyond simplistic metrics, this comprehensive framework allows funds to measure not only financial returns but also the effects on wellbeing generated by investments, ensuring that both subjective and objective aspects of happiness are prioritized.
“This groundbreaking approach aims to revolutionize the world of investing by considering more inclusive and happiness-oriented outcomes for growing companies and their stakeholders.” — Happiness Capital
Adopting the Happiness Return Framework is a systematic, three-step approach that implements a scoring system — with scores ranging from 0 to 2.0 — that offers comparable metric to traditional venture financial returns. Scores below 1.0 indicate a reduction in stakeholder happiness, while scores above 1.5 suggest exceptionally high happiness returns.
